<descript>
This is a graphical polygon dataset depicting the polygon boundaries of 107 semi-permanent census tracts and the census blocks within the Parish of East Baton Rouge. The census tracts and census blocks are created by the U. S. Census Bureau to aid in their decennial collection of census data. Demographic information for the population of these areas is linked to a four (4) digit basic number (which may or may not have a two (2) digit suffix number) assigned to each of the census tracts. In EBR Parish GIS data, these appear as two (2) digit basic numbers (which may or may not have a two (2) digit suffix number) because the leading zero placeholders are not shown. This dataset conveys the best currently (2000) available representation of the census tracts and census blocks of EBR Parish.
<purpose>The census tract and block dataset defines the boundaries of each of the census tract and the census blocks contained therein. Demographic information for the populations of each of these areas can be accessed by according to the census tract and block numbers. This dataset provides a representation of parish polygons for the purposes of portraying attributes for each of the census tract and block areas within the Parish.</purpose>
<supplinf>The metadata describes the dataset 'census tract' and 'census block', which is how the dataset was named on the East Baton Rouge Parishwide GIS.</supplinf>

<attrdef>Block_Num stands for "Block Number". The census tracts and blocks within East Baton Rouge Parish are designated by the U. S. Census Bureau to aid in their decennial collection of census data. Census tracts are semi-permanent statistical subdivisions of the Parish that will allow for comparison of demographic information over long periods of time. The 107 census tracts of EBR Parish are further divided into two (2) to seven (7) blocks to improve efficiency in statistic collection and organization. Each census tract is assigned a four (4) digit basic number (which may or may not have a two (2) digit suffix number). <overview>
<eaover>The census tracts and blocks within East Baton Rouge Parish are designated by the U. S. Census Bureau to aid in their polygons. This file represents the 107 semi-permanent census tracts and the census blocks they contain within East Baton Rouge Parish. The two (2) digit basic number (which may or may not have a two (2) digit suffix number) uniquely identifies each tract and the one (1) digit number identifies the blocks within that tract. The file was created for the purpose of determining the boundaries of the census tracts and blocks and the demographic information for parcels contained therein.</eaover>
